Humming Angels Alpacas began with a dream
a few years ago. After a collective 28 years in the high-tech electronics industry, living in suburbia in a constant state of stress and wondering, "What's this all about?" and "Where are we going?" (Sound familiar?), it was time to make some life changes. We knew we had to "get out" - out of high-tech and out of the city. As a part of the initial plan, we were certain we'd end up on a nice, peaceful spread somewhere in Oregon. What to do on the property was the question. We couldn't just sit
on the porch and watch the grass grow; in time we would figure
it out.
Although some would say there's no such thing as an
"accident", it was pretty much an accident, or fate, the way we stumbled across alpacas. We were on a business trip to northern California. Prior to departure, dad had suggested we take a drive up to Napa Valley and visit some friends of the family. He knew we were considering moving to Oregon and that we were still trying to figure out what to do on the property. He also knew they raised alpacas. "What's an alpaca?" we asked. "Stop in and see them and you'll find out", he said. We did, and could not have experienced a more pleasurable introduction to the world of alpacas!
Like every other alpaca breeder we know, we fell in love with them instantly!
After that, there was no stopping the forward motion. We began the research and investigation process proceeding with cautious optimism and eager anticipation. With each internet search, magazine article and ranch visit,
the question of what to do on the property was being
answered. The vision became clearer in our minds and in our hearts and we haven't looked back since.
We purchased our first alpacas in September of 2002, boarding them until we could find and purchase a place in Oregon with enough space and the proper facilities to be hands-on. In the 14 months our alpacas were boarded, we spent as much time with them as possible - almost every weekend. We asked as many questions as we could think of and learned all we could.
We were blessed with much support, a plethora of contacts,
resources and encouragement which provided a good foundation for a new adventure. Best of all, we
have made some wonderful new friends along the way.
Our dream became a reality when we purchased 10 acres in mid 2003 where we currently have the pleasure of watching our
angels roam in the pasture. Our herd consists mainly of the less common, much sought after reds, as well as the beautiful and increasingly popular blacks. We're
always excited about the crias due each birthing season and the wonderful boarders we care for add more color to the mix. While we continue to grow and make changes and improvements on the ranch, the daily opportunities to learn something new are never-ending and always exciting.
Humming Angels Alpacas is located on the eastern side of the beautiful Willamette Valley, just 15 minutes off the I-5. Lebanon, Oregon is known as "the town that friendship built". And that it is. We couldn't ask for nicer neighbors or a warmer community! The state capitol, Salem, is only 45 minutes north. Corvallis, home of Oregon State University and
its outstanding Veterinary Teaching Hospital, is 45 minutes to the west and the relaxing, colorful and ever-eclectic Eugene is just shy of an hour to the south.
Humming Angels is conveniently and centrally located with small town charm and small ranch care, attention, service and support.
